One of the most important things to have is good gear! Caleb Olsen, Director of Operations at Team Ortho says in the summer months, try not to wear a regular cotton t-shirt, “Stay away from cotton,” Olsen says, “which is very hot and holds onto the water.” Instead, Olsen recommends runners should “try to stick to light color, micro-fiber clothing. This will assist in wicking away the moisture.” Runner's World reviewed technical t-shirts. They can range in price from $30.00 to $75.00. Although many races are offering technical t-shirts to their runners at the finish line of the race. Other things to consider before you go out the door, “Apply sunscreen of at least SPF #15. Make sure that it is a non-drip formula that won’t drip into your eyes,” Olsen says. He adds runners should wear sunglasses that filter both UVA and UVB rays and try to wear a cap with a visor. When winter leaves and summer comes should your shoes also change? “Running shoes don’t matter as much. Someone might have a more stable shoe for running in the winter with extra stability,” Olsen says. “A summer shoe may be for more strictly road or pavement. It is most important that you where the correct shoe that fits the specific needs of your foot.”
