Minnesotans (including some RunningMoms) get out for National Running Day Print
Written by Amy Leger

Courtesy: Laura SchieffertGreat job runners for getting out and running during National Running Day. Minnesotans were very active in this national effort (held on June 3rd) to promote running as a healthy and inexpensive way to get your exercise.

I ran a couple of miles myself, even though my legs were still pretty wobbly from the half marathon I did on Sunday. Another 260 people showed up across the Twin Cities on Wednesday to make an evening of running and being a part of the running community. Six simultaneous events at 6pm in Minneapolis, St. Paul and St. Louis Park had great turnouts and raised a lot of awareness. One official with the event said there were a lot of people who ran on their own – just based on Facebook and Twitter. “Overall, a huge success,” Kristine Smith said.

This event wasn’t just in the Twin Cities. Runners in other parts of Minnesota including Little Falls laced up for the day. The Little Falls school track was open and throughout the day dozens of people came and got a run in for the big day; whether they were experienced runners or not.  Running Mom Laura Schieffert was one of them.  She went for a run with her husband, Paul.

There are plans in the works for another National Running Day next year. But in the meantime organizers hope this event will help some hook some new runners.
