If you're reading this wondering what a Runningmom is. we'll hazard a guess that it's likely -- you are:
Every day thousands of moms are out there pounding the pavement with their favorite running shoes and jogging stroller working off the baby fat on the outside and seriously toning their spirit on the inside. Runningmoms.com is capturing that audience and creating a community of women with the same passions, struggles, all while balancing family life.
Our goal at RunningMoms.com is to nurture the inner athlete in moms everywhere. We are creating a place for moms to come together and talk shop; whether it's discussing the best gear or the best way to potty train your toddler, you'll be able to find it on RunningMoms.com.
RunningMoms.com is the brainchild of Dani Kassner and Amy Leger, two moms with a passion for parenting and running.
Running a few races gave me the confidence to run my first adventure relay which in turn convinced me I was ready to try a marathon. It was during my training for Grandma's Marathon that I started thinking about bringing RunningMoms together somehow. I kept seeing other women and moms out on the trail and I thought to myself ‘I bet there's a lot we could learn from each other' and www.runningmoms.com was born. I'm a big believer in continuous learning; there is so much we can share and learn from each other as runners, moms, and women. I really enjoy races and have had some awesome experiences at all distances, including crossing the finish line at Grandma's Marathon with my Dad. I'm also fortunate to have a husband who understands how important running is to me. He's my crew and Easton is my car-seat coach. They often come and find me during my long runs and I hear EJ's little voice yelling "Go Mommy! Go! Go!" Being a role model for him is a big motivator for me, and there's nothing better than seeing my boys at the finish line.
Amy Leger: I have been running for 20 years -- off and on and sometimes off again. But when my job in television news became so stressful I constantly had headaches and was barking at everyone, I decided to get back into running. I needed a stress relief that was right outside my door. Running has been it now for the last 18 months. During that time I have quickly worked my way up into some seriously cool events. The IronGirl Duathlon in Bloomington, MN was the best thing ever! Run 2 miles, bike 22 miles, run 2 miles -- again. I also did my first 10k and 10 mile races. Now I'm preparing for a half marathon this spring.
My husband and I have two daughters. This year we have an addition -- a 17-year-old exchange student! Life's never boring. My husband is extremely supportive of my running. He even created and is Chief Web Geek for this site!
I am just as passionate about something else, celiac disease and the gluten-free diet (my oldest daughter has it). I work as an organizer for our annual Making Tracks for Celiacs Run/Walk, but I also have a blog thesavvyceliac.com to help educate others about the diet and current news surrounding it.
My professional background is in writing/communications and television news. I worked in the Twin Cities TV market for 10 years as a producer and executive producer. Now I'm home doing the stuff I love instead of the stuff I have to do! Well okay, I guess I have to do laundry, cleaning, cooking...well you get the picture.
