Nope, not a condiment for the taste more of a I ve been busy with life that I haven t written, but I ll try to 'ketchup' everyone on how busy life is .The last time I wrote it was a race report and giving some excitement to a new product I was going to be testing/demonstrating for a good friend of mine at Bite Tech (www.bitetech.com) that has partnered with Under Armour (www.underarmour.com) to release a new line of mouth guards. I m a firm believer in mouth guards since I have [...]

I know I've blogged about this before, about a year ago. That's when I went for a run with my youngest daughter Grace. But today I had an interesting experience -- trying to convince my oldest daughter to go running.

I'd been sidelined with a sinus infection for two weeks an hadn't run since that craziness started. So when I felt better today, I had the itch. I knew I'd need some tissues, but I was going. Even if it was short. Even if it was slow.&nbs [...]

2.5 weeks until the race, holy crap!

What a whirlwind of training September has been! My fiancee Ben and I spent Labor Day weekend in Washington D.C. on vacation. We each picked one big thing to do while we were there, he picked a Washington Nationals baseball game, being that I'm in the middle of training, I picked a 5K race to help me stay on track. Ben used to be a serious runner about 15 years ago, and now runs when he can on the treadmill at the gym, so he wasn't [...]

To Caffeinate or not to Caffeinate? That is the question.

This Saturday, as ventured out to do some nice speed work with my gals it hit me, half way through our 6X800 sprints, my caffeine headache. It was a painful one, not as bad as one of those, "I shouldn't have had that fourth glass of wine headaches," but one that got me jonsing for a Diet. Mt. Dew or a latte, or just anything with precious caffeine! This has always been a debate for me, do I enjoy a bit of caffeine befor [...]

The 4 R sRagnar Runningmoms.com Race ReportRun, Rest, Refuel, RepeatThis is the 3rd year I ve done this crazy race where you and 11 of your crazy friends cover 200 miles from Lacrosse WI to Minneapolis, MN this year, though, they moved the start line to Winona, MN so our route took us from MN to WI back to MN. The changes they had to make this year were due to some permits that they couldn t obtain or something. With those changes came a change to which leg of the race I wo [...]

Training for the TC 10 Mile: Part 8

Did a lovely eight miles this weekend, and let me tell you, this lack of humidity made quite a difference, holy moly! I could have gone even longer (but of course, I'm ramping up slowly, don't want to re-injure myself).

The one thing I have learned during this training so far is that running and strength training more = great for my booty, but it also = bad for my skin. I can't believe the way my face looks! I feel like a teenager again! I do have adult acne, but never [...]

Long time no blog! As many of you know, I'm getting married next June, so part of my motivation to run (besides how freeing it is, and how great I feel after a good run), is getting my body ready for the big day. Well, this summer, I've enjoyed some summer foods a little bit too much, and now I'm on a exercise and eating regimen! My three training runs a week really help things. I only try to get in at least one of strength training or Yoga. I'm also writing down what [...]

What's a "little" water? (Turtleman Race Report)

Race Report TurtlemanWhat s a little water?Well, if it s in the lake for a swim during a triathlon, a little water means that you are running in muck and crap instead of swimming in a nice lake. It also means that you could end up running the swim portion instead of swimming it because it s falling from the sky. A little water has a big impact!A little water is also a threat when you are riding a bike on roads that have painted lines and the painted crosswal [...]

How in the world did I ever decide to do a race that spans across the state of Minnesota from the south to the north, covering about 550 miles of the great state? I still am not sure how it all began, but Paul claims he sent me an email stating this would be fun and I jumped on it agreeing and saying we should sign up. I can t find that original email, but I do remember looking at the web site he sent to me and thinking it would be fun .What exactly is this race ? The race is c [...]

Oh the dreaded long run of the week... This weekend I did mine bright and early Saturday morning, meeting my fellow runners at 8:00 a.m. I proceeded to get in 6.5 miles, the most I've ran in nearly nine or so months. It wasn't pretty near the end, but we did it. We ran the short side of Calhoun, up and around Lake Harriet and then back around the rest of Calhoun before walking back to Whole Foods for our cool down.

The month of August is nuts for me, but with T-m [...]

Lesson Learned: Go Potty before the Half Marathon

My half marathon went way better than expected today. Yesterday I was so worried about not being able to finish in a certain time. But I can tell you I finished my race in 2:20 -- and that includes a potty break which I'm now kicking myself for. That ends up being around 10:40 minute miles.

So if I wouldn't have stopped for what I believe was a 2-3 minute potty break...I may very well have finished in a better time than the Minneapolis Half back in May! Ugh [...]

Twas the night before the Half....

Ah...long time no talk!
It's been a busy time. The last you heard from me I had just had a great half marathon. The Minneapolis Marathon was my first ever. Now in less than 12 hours I will be finishing my second half marathon.

I'm going to run in the Urban Wildland Half Marathon in Richfield, MN. I'm pretty nervous about this one because I don't have the support system I had with the Minneapolis Half Marathon. I ran with 4 friends from high school and my hubby in the half. Fellow Run [...]

Training for the TC 10 Mile: Part 5

As training ramps up for the TC 10, it's now time to hit the long runs. As Amy mentioned previously on the site, within the last year I had a stress fracture in my right foot from ramping up my mileage too fast while training for the frozen half marathon last winter. Now, training for the TC 10, I'm being extra careful to take rest days, and not over do it, so I don't end up in a walking boot again and on a no exercise regiment for five weeks. That no exercise regiment didn' [...]

This weekend my running gals and I ran 3.1 miles around Lake Calhoun on a beautiful Sunday evening. What a great way to wrap up the weekend. Sunday's are our long run days, and this early in our training, 3.1 is our long distance. Tonight we will be focusing on hills and running the hills over by Lake of the Isles.

Besides running, I also have a trainer that meet with at Snap Fitness about two-three times a month. She knows my running regiment and helps me stay on track with build [...]

Last night I met my trusty running gals at the RR in start of our 10 Mile Journey. We even had a new member to our little group, Anne, who works with my fellow runner Jen. All of us were accepted to the TC 10 through the lottery and feel really lucky. Last night, we listened to the shpeal from the new RR 10 Mile Instructor and made a group decision, "We can train on our own this year!" We have decided we will work on our own, and not run with the RR, something that scares me a b [...]

Training for the TC 10 Mile: Part 1

Today it begins, training for the Twin Cities 10 mile race through the Running Room (RR) in Uptown. First things first, about 18 months ago I would have never dreamed of training for this race. It all started when I joined "Team Fitness" at Lifetime Fitness (LTF) to get a workout schedule and try to become more fit. Then, it spiraled into me joining the "Learn to Run" class at the RR, thanks to some prodding from my former co-worker Kearn Kirkwood.

Anyway, enoug [...]

Still here, yep I am!I finally bought THE dress for the wedding. No details can be posted - Thom can't know about it, so you'll have to wait until post wedding to see those pics! For those that don't know - the wedding is a destination wedding in Miami, FL. We are boarding a cruise ship with our immediate families and that's about it. We are keeping it small and simple and we are focussing on the marriage - sounds cheesy, right? Well, it's true though that we want to be stress free and just [...]

Nearly 4 weeks post marathon and I haven't written...wow am I slacking?!I've been incredibly busy lately trying to get some things finalized for the wedding, train for the Border to Border race, and do some home improvements. It has been great that rink bandy has started up for the summer too on both the Women's team and the Men's team that I play for, so I'm getting on the ice two times a week on average now...and of course, I am truly enjoying every moment of that!Just a quick recap of what w [...]
