Inspiring my Daughters to Run

I know I've blogged about this before, about a year ago. That's when I went for a run with my youngest daughter Grace. But today I had an interesting experience -- trying to convince my oldest daughter to go running.
I'd been sidelined with a sinus infection for two weeks an hadn't run since that craziness started. So when I felt better today, I had the itch. I knew I'd need some tissues, but I was going. Even if it was short. Even if it was slow. I was determined not to feel bad.
Lesson Learned: Go Potty before the Half Marathon

My half marathon went way better than expected today. Yesterday I was so worried about not being able to finish in a certain time. But I can tell you I finished my race in 2:20 -- and that includes a potty break which I'm now kicking myself for. That ends up being around 10:40 minute miles.
So if I wouldn't have stopped for what I believe was a 2-3 minute potty break...I may very well have finished in a better time than the Minneapolis Half back in May! Ugh...Not only that I could have avoided nearly falling into said Biffy (because the back, or toilet side, was going downhill), ripping my number as I "prepared" to go potty, and ultimately dropping my much-needed chapstick onto the floor of the port-a-potty (fell out of my pocket-- no I would never dare to try to put chapstick on in a Biffy...ew.).

It's been a busy time. The last you heard from me I had just had a great half marathon. The Minneapolis Marathon was my first ever. Now in less than 12 hours I will be finishing my second half marathon.
I'm going to run in the Urban Wildland Half Marathon in Richfield, MN. I'm pretty nervous about this one because I don't have the support system I had with the Minneapolis Half Marathon. I ran with 4 friends from high school and my hubby in the half. Fellow RunningMoms Kristy Powell and Dani (my sister-in-law) and my father-in-law both did the full marathon. Plus my kids and my mother-in-law were along the route. This time my support will be a radio podcast and music for the first hour. My hubby and the girls will meet me, hopefully, at mile 7 and then maybe one more time before catching me at the end.

I have accomplished a major feat! I finished my first half marathon on May 31st. And what a race it was!

Questioning the Weather

Why is it I can go for a run with no problem when it's 30 degrees in January. But when it's 3o-ish degrees in late March you have to drag me out there? I feel like mother nature is playing tricks on me.

Anyone ever feel that way? I certainly do right now. Two weeks have gone by and I have not run -- once.

The Twin Cities just had one of the most significant snowfalls of the month. A whole 4.4 inches mostly overnight Friday to Saturday. It doesn't sound like much, but it is just enough snow and it has been just a long enough time since we've had snow, that Minnesotans get out and enjoy it. With the sunny start to the morning and the fresh coating of snow, it's a perfect winter morning -- even if the temperature may not get out of the teens.

One thing I'm working on with my running right now is my stride. I swear there are days where I run from my knees down and my thighs hardly move! That's got to change!

So today was a beautiful Minnesota winter day. Not only was it my oldest daughter's 10th birthday, but the weather was in the upper 40s and sunny! Just awesome.

I'm not sure whether I should be thankful or hitting the roof! I want to hit the roof but instead I'm going to try and blog away my frustration on this very page in front of me.
