The 100% Irish for a Day 5k had great turnout, with lots of RunningMoms getting' their 5k on! It was nearly 30 degrees and sunny which was rockin' compared to the 20degree weather for the Valentines Day 5k and the Polar Dash.
Leaving the house in my green & white striped socks and my St. Patty's Day headband I was feeling pretty "dressed up" but clearly I need to step it up next year! There were groups in green tutus, runners in full leprechaun costumes, and a gutsy group of young guys in full body paint. We were downright understated in our attire.
As we started out around Lake Harriet, the one thing was clear right off the bat. It was SLICK! I'm pretty accident
prone, so this made the race all the more challenging. There was a fine layer of ice over the road, and on the South side of the lake it made the downhill portion a bit dicey. There was only one casualty that we saw, and it wasn't me which was a plus. I've been known to trip over cracks in the sidewalk and then break the fall with my face. So we finished strong and headed off to Sebastian Joe's to celebrate finishing upright and mobile. There's nothing like sitting with your sweatiest pals after a run; coffee in one hand and a pastry in the other. It's possible we got a few looks for the leprechaun socks, but I wonder what they would have thought of full body paint...
